It is with deep regret that the members of Engine 42 announce the death of Lt. Howie Carpluk of Engine 42 and Fireman Michael Reilly from Engine 75. Both men died from injuries sustained at Bronx box 3-32797 on August 27, 2006

This is the home of FDNY Engine Company 42. One of three remaining single engines left in The Bronx. The single engine company is a culture within the culture of the FDNY; an animal unto itself. Located in the 19th Battalion and supported by some of the greatest surrounding companies on the job. This site will enable you to take a look at and experience some of Engine 42.

“I have no ambition in this world but one, and that is to be a fireman. The position may, in the eyes of some, appear to be a lowly one; but we who know the work which the fireman has to do believe that his is a noble calling. Our proudest moment is to save lives. Under the impulse of such thoughts, the nobility of the occupation thrills us and stimulates us to deeds of daring, even of supreme sacrifice.”

Edward F. Croker
Chief of Department (1899-1911)
